Unforgettable Moment

19 January  to 1 February 2017 was a very wonderful moment for me and my parents. We were called by Allah to fulfill His call to the holy land, Mecca and Medina. How happy are we can be there for the purpose of performing Umrah. We and our travel entourage first visited the city of Madinah al-Munawwarah and Mosque of the Prophet, Nabawi Mosque and then went to the city of Mecca al-Mukarramah to carry out the pillars of Umrah.

Madinah al-Munawwarah is the hijrah city of the Prophet after being expelled by the infidels of Quraish. The Prophet also died and was buried in this city, precisely in his house which now is  part of the Nabawi Mosque. The atmosphere in Nabawi Mosque is very comfortable, clean, and also very fragrant.

On the second day we were there, we were guided by ustadzah for pilgrimage to the tomb of the Prophet, Raudhah and the Companions. Raudhah is a effective place for prayer. But to be able to pray there needs a tremendous struggle because when entering Raudhah is very crowded. Jemaah from various countries are vying to get into the place.

In Medina, we were also guided by the head of the entourage for pilgrimage to several historical places, such as pilgrimage to Quba Mosque, Jabal Uhud, to date palms place, Saqifah Bani Sa'idah (the place of appointment of the first caliph after the death of Prophet), and Asmaul Husna Meseum. We were in Medina for 5 days.

On the 6th day, after performing Dhuhr prayer at Nabawi Mosque, we went to Mecca to perform
the main worship. On our journey there, we took Miqat at Bir Ali’s Mosque. We arrived at the hotel
around 10.00 p.m. Then at 11.00 p.m go to the Mesjidil haram to do umrah’s pillars, Thawaf, Sa'i,
and Tahallul. At 03.00 a.m we finished do the pillars. Then we continued with the Subh prayer in
Mesjidil Haram, a Mosque which is repeatedly mentioned in the holy Qur'an. We were very touched
and very happy to worship there. We also can see Ka’bah with a very close, even Allah gave us a
chance to touch it. Allah also gave us 3 times a chance to perform Umrah while in Mecca. We took
the second Miqat at the Ji'ronnah Mosque and the third Miqat at the Hudaibiyah Mosque. We did
worship in Mesjidil Haram for 7 days.

In Mecca, we were also guided by the group leader and Ustadz to visit some historical places. Such as Jabal Tsur, to Mina, Mudzdhalifah, Arafah, Jabal Rahmah, to the camel farm,  and Meseum of two holy Mosques, Mesjidil Haram and Mesjid Nabawi.

On the last day we were there, before doing the subh prayer at Mesjidil Haram, we performed the Thawaf Wada. After Sybh prayer, we left the Mecca al Mukarramah city and went to Jeddah. In Jeddah, we pilgrimaged to the grave of Siti Hawa, Qishah Mosque, to the shopping center, and to the Floating Mosque. Then we went to the King Abdul Aziz Airport and leaved for Banda Aceh at 08.50 p.m on the local time. At 08.35 a.m we arrived at Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport.

That was a short story when we were there. Hopefully, we all be given the opportunity to do worship there. Aamiin.

Summary of 'The Linguistic Genius of Babies' by Patricia Kuhl

Patricia Kuhl tells about a mother in India speaks Koro which is a newly-discovered language. She is talking to her baby. What this mother and the 800 people who speak Koro in the world understand that to preserve this language they need to speak it to the babies because babies and children are geniuses until they turn seven years old. The first critical period in development is the period where babies master which sound is used in their language. There are two things going on during the critical two month period, the first is that the babies are listening intently to us and they are taking statistics as they listen to us talk. Babies are sensitive to the statistics. For example, two mothers speaking motherese to the kids, English and Japanese. So, when babies listen, the babies are taking statistics on the language that they hear. The statistics of Japanese and English is very different. English has a lot of R and L. Whereas the group of intermediates sounds in Japanese is known as t...

Summary of 'Txtng is Killing Language' by John McWhorter

John McWhorter tells that texting spells the decline and fall of any kind of serious literacy or at least writing ability among young people in the United States and now the whole world today. Texting is not writing at all. If humanity had existed for 24 hours, writing only came along at about 11:07 p.m. That is how much of a latterly thing of writing. The first there is a speech, and then writing comes along as a kind of artifice. Speech is much looser. It’s much more telegraphic, much less reflective, it’s very different from writing. In a distant are now, it was common when one gave a speech to basically talk like writing. If we can speak like writing, then logically it follows that you might want to also sometimes write like we speak. One we have think that can receive the message then we have the conditions that allow that we can write like we speak, and that’s where texting comes in. Texting is very loose in its structure. No one think about capital letters or punctuation when o...

The Origin of Studying in English Majors

When I was in senior high school in the second semester of the third grade, I asked for advice of my teachers about choosing the majors to continue my study at university. Many of them advised me to choose English majors in this university. The ir reason was   English majors does not cause unemploy ment because English is an i nternational language that can be used anywhere. Also, English majors in this university has accreditation ‘A’. Actually, I really liked Chemistry and Mathematics subjects since in junior high school, even in senior high school I always have high scores in th ose subjects. Conversely, I do not like English subjects. Strangely, my Chemistry teacher also suggested the same thing, s he suggested me to choose English majors for the same reason. I told my parents about it. They also agree with my teachers’ choice. But I doubt because I have no basi c on it . However, I said in my heart " I would to try first, I believe I can live it ". The ...
