Media Used by English Teacher at School

This is a result of report about media that English teacher uses in teaching English in school. I got from an English teacher in SMAN 17 Banda Aceh (Elvinda, S.Pd, M.Pd). Based on my interview with her, she said that she used a lot of media in teaching learning process in the classroom, such as book, projector, snake and ladder, monopoly, and so on. I think she is a smart teacher in atrracting her students’ attention to the topic which was teaching. However, because I only got one day meeting opportunity to observe her teaching in the classroom, so that on this paper I only discuss about Dreaming Tree Media as a media that she used on 22 April 2017. She used that media to teach the second grade students about “Hopes and Wishes” topic.
A.    Dreaming Tree Media
Based on the types of media, Dreaming Tree is categorized as one type of traditional media, especially as a realia media. Realia is a manipulative object of human's work toward a real thing. In this case, the Dreaming Tree is a manipulation realia, specimen or model of a tree.
The term 'Dreaming Tree' comes from English which means 'Tree of Dreams'.   This Dreaming Tree is a term given by one of the teachers of SMAN 17 Banda Aceh.
Dreaming Tree is an artificial tree. Its appearance is almost similar to a banyan tree that has 15 branches. Each branch has 10 leaves and one flower at the top of the branch. The stem of the Dreaming Tree is made of 10-inch of iron, while the branch is made of 1 inch of iron. In addition, the leaves and flowers are made of a mixture of cloth and plastic. The tree is planted in a pot made of concrete.
The shape of Dreaming Tree is very unique. Therefore, it can also be a very interesting interior jewelry. This is evidenced from the attention and curiosity of students to the media and learning materials that are presented by teachers also increased.

B.     Benefits of Dreaming Tree Media
Dreaming Tree media is very useful to support the learning process, both for the
students and teachers. It can overcome the limited experience possessed by the students.
This media also evoke the students' interests. With this media, the horizon of student experience
is increasingly wide spread, perceptions increasingly critical, the concepts become more
complex. As the result, the desire and interest to learn always arise.

C.    How to play
The procedure of using dreaming tree media is as follows:
1.      The teacher introduced Dreaming Tree media to students.
2.      Students observe and explore the learning materials attached to each leaf of dreaming tree
media. Then the teacher facilitates the students to collect the data; Grouping hopes and wishes.
3.      Students remove the examples of expressions written on the 'get-well card' contained in each
leaf of a dreaming tree media. Then students write down “Hopes and Wishes” phrases obtained
from other sources.
4.      Students  write ”Hopes and Wish” expressions in get-well cards.
5.      The student writes the phrase for their friend and attaches it to their friend's branch.
