The Origin of Studying in English Majors

When I was in senior high school in the second semester of the third grade, I asked for advice of my teachers about choosing the majors to continue my study at university. Many of them advised me to choose English majors in this university. Their reason was  English majors does not cause unemployment because English is an international language that can be used anywhere. Also, English majors in this university has accreditation ‘A’. Actually, I really liked Chemistry and Mathematics subjects since in junior high school, even in senior high school I always have high scores in those subjects. Conversely, I do not like English subjects. Strangely, my Chemistry teacher also suggested the same thing, she suggested me to choose English majors for the same reason.

I told my parents about it. They also agree with my teachers’ choice. But I doubt because I have no basic on it. However, I said in my heart "I would to try first, I believe I can live it". The next day, my teacher informed me that UIN is opening SPAN registration. With a worried, I chose the English department as first choice, and Islamic Counseling Guidance as the second choice.

As time passes, SPAN announcement will be announced soon. When I saw the result, I was very surprised because I was accepted at this university with my first choice. I believe that this is the best way for me. I am sure that Allah has a better plan for me than I have for myself. Since that day, I learned English step by step with the help of my English teacher. Instead my parents invited him to be my private tutor for a month before the lecture began. It was not easy for me when I had to start from the basic.

Lectures began. At that time we had to follow the matriculation of English and Arabic for a month. I felt inferior with my friends who fluently speak English. But I keep learning. I also often communicate with my teacher to ask for help if I can not do it by myself. Alhamdulillah, I can get an A score when matriculation. He is a teacher who is very meritorious to me. Here, I also took English course to help me to increase my English.

That's my short story on how I can continue my study at this university, especially in English majors.
