Medias for Teaching English

This semester, in Instructional Media class, we should create the media that used in teaching students in the classroom for every meeting. We should present it in front of the class. This is some of media that I have craeted.
1.      Printed Media (Newspaper)
v  Description
This is a printed media and used to teach about News Item for the fisrt grade students of Senior High School.
Firts, I teach the students about News Item topic. Then, when they can get the information, I give them this newspaper as an exercise. I will divide them into several group. Each group consist of three or four students. I give each group one paper. Next, they should find W-H questions from the newspaper and also give the edivences. They should finish it about 10 minutes. If they have finished it, I will ask the answers from each group and discuss it together.

2.      Realia Media
v  Description
I used the picture of animals to teach about the name of animal. This is a realia media. I used this media for the first grade students of Junior High  School. I used those pictures because those picture are the contextual pictures (realia). They can find those real animals in their environment. Therefore, for the realia media, I teach about animals.
I show them one by one of the animal pictures and I write down the name of its animal on the white board. After I write all of their name, I teach them how to pronounce it. Then, I will randomize the pictures and ask them one by one to mention its name and make one sentence using its animal, so that they can automatically memorize it.

3.      Miniature Media
v  Description
I made house’s miniature. This miniature is made by myself using sticks. I will teach about description text for the first grade students of Senior High School. I ask the students to make a description text using this miniature. Before I ask them to make it in one paragraph, I provide some vocabularies that they do not know and write it on the white board. After that, I ask them to read in front of the class one by one voluntarily so that all of his/her classmate can listen to his/her description.  Also, I made it colorful so that can attract their interest.

After breakfast I take a bath and get ready to go to campus if I have schedule at 8 a.m. My sister’s house where I stay is in Gampong Jawa, a bit far from campus so that I have to leave 30 minutes early. I go to campus by motorcycle. This semester, almost every day the college schedule ends before Dhuhur. After the class is over, I usually do the assignment with my close friends. The first critical period in development is the period where babies master which sound is used in their language. There are two things going on during the critical two month period, the first is that the babies are listening intently to us and they are taking statistics as they listen to us talk. Babies are sensitive to the statistics. For example, two mothers speaking motherese to the kids, English and Japanese. So, when babies listen, the babies are taking statistics on the language that they hear. The statistics of Japanese and English is very different. English has a lot of R and L. Summary of 'The Enchanting Music of Sign Language' by Christine Sun Kim

Christine Sun Kim was born deaf. She is an artist. In his talk, she shares about the history of ASL and a bit of her background. French sign language was brought to America during the early 1800s and as time went by mixed with local signs, it evolved into the language we know today as ASL. Sun Kim was taught to believe that sound wasn’t part of her life. In contrast, sound was very much a part of her life. As a deaf person, Kim understand sound through watching how people behave and respond to sound. The people are like her loudspeaker and amplify sound. At the same time, she have learned to create sound ‘sound atiquette’  and seen how people respond to her. In Deaf culture, movement is equivalent to sound. Kim also showed some sign languages and its meaning. Because of Sun Kim is an artist, she decided to reclaim ownership of sound and put it into her art practice.
